Relay for Life a Success!

UNH Cancer Fundraiser Participants Raise $114, 356.49

Relay for Life, a cancer awareness fundraiser that is often recognized with the slogan, "The journey to end cancer starts with a single step" was organized on campus this past Saturday the 27th at noon for 24 hours.

1,253 Wildcats and local citizens together chose to take that first step as 96 teams participated in the journey which helped to raise $114,356.49.

This amount of money not only helped the cause but brought UNH together to be a even stronger and closer community of students through the constant activities of walking, music, bake sales and physical competitions such as jump rope.

Congratulations 2013 Relay Teams on the huge success!

Celebrate May Day the UNH Way!

    May Day Carnival!

Flying Frisbees on the quad , mopeds, cookouts, longer days and warmer nights can only point to one thing at UNH: spring is officially here!!! The campus activities board also known as CAB has scheduled the opportunity for students to cool their spring fever with a May Day Carnival!

What is May Day? Well, if you were like me, you would have no clue except have the picture of kids running around a may pole with fancy ribbon pop into your mind. After researching the definition, I found that May Day is simply a celebration of the beginning of Spring! Clearly this is a prime week to appreciate this season's weather that mother nature has given us the past few days because of Earth Day on Monday.

What better way to spend the start of this beautiful Spring season with live bands, free food, games and rides. Come check out this eight hour event in C-Lot this Saturday, the 27th from 1 to 9 pm.

Band Seapony to Tour in Europe

Another Hot Band On the Rise

As the band Seapony is about to kick off a small tour in May throughout parts of Europe, there is excitement in the air among the band mates as they regularly Tweet to their growing fan base about their adventures in Berlin, Paris and London. There is no question to whether you've hit it big when you travel overseas to perform.

Is there a possible Seapony tour in Manchester in the near future? Maybe even at UNH campus? Many fans in this area are hopeful. The band's second album entitled Falling  was released in September which soothes listeners with a unique light and airy, summer-like feel that would definitely be welcomed in New England weather.

And why shouldn't Seapony gain popularity? Their music provides a glimpse of summer as their tracks play while the listener could easily get lost in the daydream of beach days and hazy nights all because of the sun-kissed sound.

Seapony greatly reminds me of the way that the Indie-pop duo band Matt and Kim began; with a musically gifted couple based out of a big city. Seattle native bassist, Ian Brewer and songwriter, singer and guitarist Jen Weidi launched the band in 2010 with their first three track single called Dreaming after adding another guitarist named Danny Rowland. Since Daydream had a great amount of positive feedback, Seapony released the record
Go With Me that established the band's now reputation for a good-vibe pop genre.

Seapony has been a favorite at WUNH with Outside being a popular track ever since Falling was released.

Comedian Jay Pharoah to Perform at UNH

A Rising Star to be among Us!

When you think funny, you may think of the hilarious performances of Dane Cook, Gabriel Iglesias, and Kristen Wiig. When you think classic rap artists, Will Smith or Tupac may pop into your mind.

But who do you think of when someone can combine all of these elements together into one entertaining routine? Remember the name Jay Pharoah because he is an up an coming comedian who can do just that.  Jay Pharoah lights up every stage that he is on with the talent of impersonating famous music artists through their own type of singing or rapping style along with the incorporation of his own comedic script.

Pharoah is gaining popularity and a large fan base because of his skits on the weekly show, Saturday Night Live. Lucky for us, he will be taking time off to visit the UNH campus on April 20 to perform!

Get your tickets now at the MUB box office before they are sold out! It will be a night you won't soon forget!

Jazz comes alive at UNH!

Michael White and the New Liberty Jazz Band

It is no secret that Jazz music has always had a great presence here at WUNH. Lately it seems that the rest of the UNH community is following suit and showing appreciation for this often forgotten style of music as the Michael White and the New Liberty Jazz Band performed on campus this past Monday.

Michael White is not only a talented clarinetist but he is also a composer and educator of jazz history. As a New Orleans ctizen, White has been committed to savoring the city’s unique culture and heritage ever since starting his own jazz band in 1981 after being a member of various previous bands.

Michael White and the New Liberty Jazz Band fan favorites include the lighthearted and airy sound of the song "Summertime" as well as the popular "Whoppin Blues".

One audience member had nothing but good remarks when she said,"The Johnson theater was alive with culture; we got a really good feeling about what the music is like in New Orleans".
